Snapchat Hits Impressive Benchmark
Snapchat hit a major milestone this week by claiming a daily audience of more than 100 million people, who are watching more than 10 billion videos per day – up from 8 billion in February.
This means that more than a third of the app’s daily users are creating stories with an astounding number of videos per day, in turn fueling the platform’s growth. That figure comes as its competitors, Facebook at the forefront, try to figure out what features to develop next just to compete.
If it doesn’t adapt, Facebook risks falling behind and being viewed at more as a vague necessity rather than a fun, creative tool to communicate life events. Indeed, what makes Snapchat especially dangerous is that it “cuts to the heart of what Facebook cares about most: sharing.”
But back to 10 billion views a day. Snapchat is growing – fast – and it doesn’t show any signs of stopping.
From a marketing perspective, that number raises questions as to the dollar value of Snapchat’s filters and what kinds of creative will best appeal to these audiences. Geofilters and 3D lenses in particular have been especially popular, but who knows what they’ll roll out next?
